Shot at La Carpintería Clandestina, a queer performance space in in Havana, Cuba, Anoche (Last Night) brings together a cast of Cuban artists in a collaborative exploration of a shared sense of connection and loss across the Cuban diaspora. A meditation on artistic freedom, the film reinterprets the legacy of Cuban cabaret through the lens of 21st-century artists who are finding ways to express themselves within a collapsing economy, in a climate of censorship. Cinematically, the film responds to canonical precedents like “Soy Cuba” (1964) and “P.M.” (1961). The Cuban-US co-production was conceived by Alexandro Segade and initiated by the newly formed Performance Art Museum.
